We’re seeing a number of iPhone 5S users complaining that they are experiencing problems with Touch ID. Many iPhone users complained of Touch ID simply not working after they upgraded their iPhone 5s to iOS 7.1. Apple support forums have several threads created by users describing their Touch ID problems. For instance, one user wrote:
“After installing iOS 7.1 Touch ID stopped working. When I put my finger on the sensor nothing happens. I already tried rebooting and switching Touch ID on and off. None of that seemed to work. Is there anyone else experiencing similar problems?”
“I have the same issue. Fingerprint no longer works. I deleted my old fingerprints, rebooted and it will not allow me to add new fingerprints. I noticed if I slightly move my finger around, it will go to the next screen and vibrate once, but it won’t continue to read additinoal scans and complete the process. I see no way to reslve this without Apple releasing an iOS 7.1.1 to fix it.” wrote another user.

Possible Fixes:
Please note that you will need to enter your passcode to unlock your iPhone if you restart your iPhone 5s.
1.Restart your device.
2. It seems that, for a number of iPhone 5S users, OS 7 upgrade disables the iPhone Unlock setting. Make sure that iPhone Unlock is enabled: Settings > General > Touch ID & Passcode > Touch ID.
3.Make sure that both your finger and the Home button are clean and dry.
4.Tap Settings > General > Touch ID & Passcode > Touch ID > Edit then delete and then reenroll the finger.
