CarPlay debuted at the Geneva Auto Show more than two weeks ago. A number of automobile makers already signed on to support Apple’s CarPlay. It will be available first on cars from Ferrari, Mercedes-Benz, and Volvo. Many other high profile auto manufacturers already confirmed their interest in CarPlay, including BMW, Honda, Hyundai, Ford, Chevrolet, Nissan, Chevrolet, Kia, Jaguar and more.
In June, 2013, BMW announced that they were not going to include CarPlay in their vehicles. A BMW spokesperson told ArnoldClark.com that “we have such an advanced multimedia offering that has been in vehicles in various guises for more than a decade, it would not be that straightforward to start changing all of the architecture of a car as has been implied [by Apple].” Shortly after, however, BMW said that there were “in close contact with Apple and currently investigating the technical challenges required to integrate iOS in the Car”.
This was all last year. We contacted BMW yesterday.
“Currently it is not yet known if and when Apple’s CarPlay will be available in BMW vehicles” a BMW representative told us. It seems that BMW has not made any final decision yet. It further seems that the company is little hesitant about CarPlay but the good news is that BMW does not appear to have ruled out CarPlay entirely.
