How To Install 9.0 Pie One UI OTA Firmware on Galaxy Note 8 [Exynos Snapdragon]

Samsung Galaxy Note 8 users can now update their phones to Android 9.0 Pie One UI firmware. After the Galaxy S9 and S8, Galaxy Note 8 users can finally join the One UI beta program. In this program, all registered users receive beta updates based on the latest upcoming Android version, in this case, Android Pie. If you have a Galaxy Note 8 with a Snapdragon or Exynos chipset, then you can go ahead and sign up for the beta program through Samsung Members.


If you do not want to wait and update through the beta program, there is another way. Note 8 users who have registered in the program have managed to obtain the official OTA ZIP files. The firmware version for Exynos Note 8 is N950FXXU5ZSAB and for Snapdragon variant is N950USQU5DRL7.


The Pie update for the Note 8 brings new features including redesigned One UI, Night Mode, Adaptive Battery, redesigned Always On display and much more. If you want to update your phone right, follow the tutorial below.


How To Install 9.0 Pie Update on Galaxy Note 8 [One UI]


Note: While this is an official build created and released by Samsung, it is still a beta build. This means that there might be a few bugs here and there, but for the most part, everything should be smooth and stable.

Exynos variant (SM-N950F)


There are two Pie beta builds for the Exynos variant of the Note 8. The first version is N950FXXU5ZSA5 and the second version is N950FXXU5ZSAB. Before you can install any of the builds, you need to be on N950FXXU5CSA3. You can flash it through Odin.



Snapdragon variant (SM-N950U)


There are three Pie beta builds for the Snapdragon variant of the Note 8. The first version is N950USQU5DRL5, the second version is N950USQU5DRL6 and the third one is N950USQU5DRL7. Before you can install any of the builds, you need to be on N950USQS5CRK1. You can flash it through Odin.



Installation Process


Make sure you have the required Oreo firmware installed before you proceed with the installation process below.



  1. Turn off your phone. Press and hold the volume up, Bixby and power keys at the same time. This will boot your phone into stock recovery mode.

  2. If you have a microSD card on your phone, follow guide “a”. If you do not have an SD card, then follow guide “b”.

    1. While in recovery, select “apply update from SD card”. Go to your card’s storage and select the update.zip file (the downloaded beta build). The phone will flash the new Pie update.

    2. While in recovery, select “apply update from adb“. Make sure you have all the ADB drivers installed and the update.zip file in the correct folder. Open CMD and run the following code:
      adb sideload <location/update.zip>/span>

      Change location with the address of your file.




  3. Wait for the process to finish.
