Install TWRP on 7.0 Nougat Samsung Galaxy S6 S6 Edge

Now that Samsung has updated both the Galaxy S6 SM-G920F and S6 Edge SM-G925F to official Android 7.0 Nougat firmware based on TouchWiz UX, a good thing to do is to install TWRP on your phone. As it is the most used recovery on Android phones, it will be a nice addition to the already awesome features of the Nougat update.

If you are a TWRP fan and have used it on your phone with older Android versions such as Marshmallow, you will be happy to hear that you can install the recovery on the latest Nougat update as well. The new firmware does not cause any issues with recoveries and users can reinstall their favorite ones.

When you flash the Nougat firmware on your S6 or S6 Edge using Odin, it will delete your custom recovery (TWRP) and revert back to stock. The good news is that you can easily reinstall it.

How To Install TWRP on Nougat Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge

If you updated to Nougat by flashing an official firmware using Odin, you won’t have a hard time flashing TWRP. It is the same process, but with a different file.

Download

Installation

  1. Download the latest version of TWRP from the links above, and download the file which ends with “.img.tar“. For example, for TWRP 3.1.0-0 download “twrp-3.1.0-0-zeroflte.img.tar“.

  2. Launch Odin on your PC. Click on AP and select the TWRP file.

  3. Take your phone, turn it off and go into download mode. To do so, press and hold the volume down, home and power buttons at the same time.

  4. Once in download mode, connect your phone with your computer via USB.

  5. On your computer, go to Odin and click the start button.

This will flash the TWRP file on your phone. Once the process is over, the phone will reboot automatically. Now turn off your phone again, and this time press the volume up, home and power buttons. This will boot your phone to recovery mode.
