We are hoping that macOS will change how we search for things on our Macbook. Until then, if you are a newcomer to the world of Macbooks and OS X, here are a few easy shortcut tips and other tricks to help you out. By no means, these are going to make you a Safari Ninja, but it should definitely help you speed up your navigation in Safari.
Tip # 1 Shortcut to Access Safari Search Bar
For users that have recently migrated from Windows, it usually takes some time to get familiar with the keyboard shortcuts that we Macintoshers have grown accustomed to.
If you are used to the alt-tab keys on your PC to shift between apps, you may need to reorient yourself and start using the <Cmnd> +<Tab> keys to toggle between apps without touching your mouse.
In Safari, in order to quickly access the Search Bar on the top using your keyboard, Just press <Cmnd>+L and you are there! If you are furiously typing away on a document and are looking to quickly search a topic, it makes it easier to <Cmnd> +Tab to get into your safari session followed by a <Cmnd> +L and you are done.
With macOS Sierra,to be released later this year, You may no longer need to remember this as Siri will assist you in your searches!
Tip # 2 Shortcuts to navigate between Tabs and Add links to your Reading List
As far as I remember, Safari always allowed you to <cmnd-click> a link to open it in a new tab. This setting is controlled in your Safari >Preferences >Tab. You can set it up here to open it automatically. When you have opened multiple tabs in your Safari, you can quickly navigate through these tabs by using <Cmnd>+1 for the first tab or <Cmnd>+ 2 for the second tab and so on.
When browsing search results from Google or your favorite search engine, just press <Shift> and Click on the link and it is automatically added to your reading list in Safari. Similarly <Option> + Click will download the page to your Downloads folder.
Tip# 3 Changed Your Mind about Password for a Site
When you enter a password for a website, Safari prompts you to see if you want to save the password. If you clicked Never for this Website, but later changed your mind, you can very easily change the settings to save a password for the site. Click on Safari >Preferences > Password tab. Select the site from the shown list. It should be marked up as “Passwords Never Saved” and then click the Remove button. The next time you open the site on your Safari, it will prompt you to save a password if you choose to.
