Viruses and other malware. Can my iPad (or iPhone) be infected?

A virus is a type of  is a software program that spreads from one device to another. Windows computers are  the most malware-ridden platform in the PC world. In the mobile world, Android tops the charts as the most malware-ridden platform. However, If you have just switched to iOS (e.g., iPad or iPhone) and are worried about viruses and other malware, don’t worry , as of now, there are no known iOS viruses (e.g., Worms, Trojan horses or Spyware) that can infect an iPad or iPhone that has not been jailbroken. However, jailbreaking can cause security vulnerabilities.

This means that unless your iPhone or iPad is jailbroken, it is not possible to be infected by a virus. Furthermore, iOS devices have no file manager for a virus to attack and most viruses are written as executable files (.exe files), which simply will not run on an iPad or iPhone. Apple’s tight control of the iOS and the App Store ensures protection against malware and viruses.

What about emails and messages?

It is known that viruses are often spread by attachments in email messages or by text messages. You can freely open your emails and attachments without worrying if the emails/messages/attachments contain any viruses because It is impossible for a program to execute unless it is downloaded from the App Store.
