This short article explains how to use your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch without the home button. It is known that the home button has been one of the most unreliable components on iOS devices. If you are having home button issues, you may want to read our previous articles (home button not working or unresponsive; slow home button problem) to fix it. However, if your home button is completely broken, then you may want to use an accessibility feature called Assistive Touch to enable a virtual home button instead, this feature lets you use your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch even if the home button is completely dead. Here is how to simulate the home button:
Tap Settings > General and Accessibility and scroll until you see AssistiveTouch (Under “Physical & Motor”) and toggle this switch on.
Now you will see the new assistive touch button in the lower right corner. You can drag this button anywhere along the bottom or sides of the screen.
You may tap that to access the virtual home button. You will be presented with a few buttons. You may perform all functions without using the physical home button.
With this virtual home button, you may:
- Close apps and return to the default screen
- Use Siri
- Lock screen
- Rotate screen
- Volume up and down
- Mute
- Shake
- Screenshot
- Multitasking
