The iPhone 4S: Should You Make the Investment?

Even with mixed reviews and some sighs of disappointment over the blogosphere Apple’s iPhone 4S was launched to record breaking sales. Some of the disappointment in part came due to the release of the 4S when so many die-hard fans were expecting the iPhone 5. Still the 4S is an upgrade to the iPhone 4 with fantastic improvements hidden on the inside. To be honest I have learned to ignore rants and negativity and make a decision based on my personal experience with Apple and my faith, yes faith, in the brand. I have seen that consumers will always be on lookout for the next upgrade no matter how great the current model is.

If you recall with me you would remember that the same thing happened when the iPhone 3GS was released. The internet was all abuzz with the reviews that Apple had cheated customers once again! Cheated you say? Yes, those were the reviews. They completely overlooked the fact that the iPhone 3GS was much faster, the camera was much better, they resolved the issues with the antenna, the voice recognition was a vast improvement, battery life was extended and they included a supped up operating system to boot. What more could consumers want? In the end those who decided to ignore the bad reviews and spring the money for the phone were thrilled with it.

And so it is with the 4S. While the phone looks and handles similar to the iPhone 4 there have been a lot of changes on the inside. First the dual-chip A5 chip makes it more powerful with more storage, faster response time and efficient browsing of the internet. So powerful is this new processor that it is on par to that of the iPad. How does it compare to its predecessor? Well it is seven times faster when viewing graphics and videos and it packs a power punch that is twice that of the iPhone 4. The longer battery life also makes a truly a gamer’s delight.

I am all about the screen and the touch screen does not disappoint. Its fast and super responsive making it a breeze to handle apps, check email and play games. Another welcome improvement for me comes in the camera. The 8MP and new optics technology used for shooting high-def videos is incredible. Incredible! No more having to hold still for the shutter to click just to get a good picture. The fast response times mean more efficiency and great pictures. Perfect if you don’t want to carry your digital camera around.

The face detection technology makes it possible to adjust the lighting so you can focus on what’s most important on the screen. Adjustments can be made to the frame and the exposure and you can recognize up to 10 faces every time you take a shot. I can bet you that no other smartphone camera can match up.

The final new feature worth mentioning is the iCloud which helps in the management of all your files. Store photos, documents, music remotely something that is exclusive to Apple devices.

Are the upgrades worth the money? I say hell yes but that’s just me. I realize what counts for me is what’s on the inside. It makes all the difference. You decide what’s good for you!
