Safari 5.0 Hangs While Loading Pages: Fix

Several users have reported an issue in which Safari 5.0 stalls in the middle of loading some web pages.

We previously noted that some instances of this issue–and Safari 5.0 slowness in general–may be caused by the presence of third-party add-ons that are incompatible with Safari 5.0.

It now appears that other cases are caused by problematic interaction with DNS servers. As such, some users have been able to eliminate the stalls by changing their systems’ DNS servers to those offered by OpenDNS. To do so:

  • Open System Preferences and click “Network”

  • Select your connection method (AirPort, Ethernet, etc.)

  • Enter the following items in the “DNS Server” field:  208.67.222.222, 208.67.220.220

  • Click Apply
