Trying to restore the iPhone 6S as a factory unit only, completely draining the iPhone and then trying to recharge it to 100% has temporarily solved the issue for a few. This problem however returns for the iPhone 6S owners.

Apple believes this issue is related to battery on the iPhone 6S for devices within a limited serial number range manufactured between September and October 2015. If your device qualifies for the repair program, the battery replacement for your device will be provided free of charge. Apple has ruled out any Safety problems related to this issue.

In order to find out if your device qualifies for this repair program, you will need to get in touch with Apple Authorized Service provider or Apple Retail store or can contact Apple technical support. The wireless carrier partners are not participating in this program so it will not be helpful if you try to take your device to your local carrier store.

Apple’s guidance is that before you bring your iPhone 6S for the battery replacement program, you should back up your iPhone, Turn off Find my iphone and try the Erase all content and Settings.

The announcement comes this week after Apple launched a program to fix Touch related issues (also called “touch disease”) for iPhone 6 Plus owners. Unfortunately, Apple requires iPhone owners experiencing touch related issues to pay for the repairs.  However, the battery replacement program is free for eligible iPhone 6S owners.

If you are having random shutdown issues with your iPhone 6 S and you purchased the device recently, you may want to contact Apple technical support and check if you qualify for this repair program.
