According to the latest news sources, Fitbit’s new smart fitness watch is selling better than Apple Watch on Amazon.com.
Fitbit announced yesterday that it shipped more than 1 million Fitbit Blaze devices in March, exceeding analyst expectations. The Stock FIT is up by 13% this morning. The Fitbit Blaze currently ranks as the No.1 best selling device in the smartwatch category of Amazon.
With increased competition from Apple Watch and others, Fitbit has been on a spree of rapid innovation. When it comes to the Fitbit Blaze, it is easy to see why the strategy of imitation is the best defense to retain existing market share. The blaze takes a page out of the Apple Watch playbook: swappable bands, a rectangular touch-screen face, and a customizable color display.
In terms of internal features, it matches up to the offerings from Apple. Both the devices support Bluetooth 4.0, have a heart rate sensor, are water resistant and can sync to more than 200 iOS apps.
The Blaze comes in three sizes: small (fits wrists 5.5 to 6.7 inches in circumference), large (fits wrists 6.7 to 8.1 inches in circumference) and extra-large (fits wrists 8.1 to 9.3 inches in circumference).
One key advantage on the Blaze is its Battery life. With 4 – 5 days of available juice, it is way superior to the 18 hours that you get out of the current Apple Watch sport edition. But then again for those of us that are familiar with the Apple features, you are not going to be getting Siri, no Apps or the ability to send emojis!
Given this impressive performance from FitBit’s Blaze, there is a strong chance that we will see some very interesting and much needed features in the new Apple Watch 2.0 if it launches this year. If Apple decides to upgrade from the current S1 chipsets to the new “S2” chip, it will definitely be a game changer.
Little is known just how much more powerful the new chip will be, but it should reduce app loading times and will certainly be more energy-efficient.
Hopefully that will translate into improvements in better battery life and also provide an all-round smoother experience. A more powerful CPU and graphics chip combination will also mean more striking visuals (such as the use of 3D) in more apps.
It’s too early to tell so for now we will say FitBit 1 Apple 0. This will change soon!
