iMessage notification delay bug, how to fix

iMessage allows users to send messages back and forth with other iOS device users. iMessage users have been reporting delays or slowness when using iMessages. Users have been complaining that they’re noticing a lag in receiving new messages. For instance, an iPhone user stated that:

Whenever I receive an iMessage from someone, I don’t get notified until about 3-8 minutes later. Messages will say the text was delivered at (for example) 2:38, but I won’t be notified about it until 2:44.

Yeah I had a bunch of time stamp errors as well, mine would go like this. My gf would imessage me at say 2:30 in real life, I wouldn’t get notified until 2:40 and there will be a time stamp indicating 2:30.

Fix:

  • Some users have reported that they had success resolving the issue by simply rebooting their iPhone or iPad devices. You may try simply rebooting your device by pressing and holding the sleep/wake (on/off) button until you see the red slider.

  • If rebooting does not work, try this: disable iMessage by tapping Settings > Messages and toggle iMessage off. Then reset your network settings by tapping  Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings. Now, tap Settings, go back into the “Messages” section and toggle on “iMessage”.

  • If still having problems, tap Settings > General > About and check to see if any carrier update is available. If it is available, a prompt will appear to let you update your carrier settings.

  • Also update your device to the latest iOS  by going to Settings > General > Software Update.
