Apple’s latest Mid 2013 MacBook Air issues

The new Mac Book Air 2013 model is the most recent notebook computer Apple released.  A look at the Apple support forums shows this computer is no different than any other because it has all those niggling little software and hardware trouble.  Two bigger problems revealed themselves rather quickly, frequent Wi-Fi connection drops and the screen going black unexpectedly.

The typical issue with the Wi-Fi connection has been the user connects to the Internet then loses the actual connection only a few seconds later.  The Air’s signal display still shows full strength and other devices connected to that router can surf the Internet.   Users have reported that they have been restarting their MacBook, changing their router’s radio channel and other issues but those have not been the solution.   The Wi-Fi connection is fixed with the MacBook Air Software Update 1.0.  The quickest way to get this update is using the Software Update option on the Apple menu.  The App Store will launch and any updates for both OS X and Mac App store apps installed on your computer will show up here.  This software update fixes an Adobe Photoshop screen flickering problem and a problem with the audio volume changing unexpectedly while watching videos.

The other most discussed problem of the screen going dark at random times has not been corrected yet. Users have reported they have been using their MacBook and then suddenly the screen goes black and won’t come back on after pressing keys and so forth.  Over 300 users have posted replies with other similar scenarios reporting the same problem.

The latest replies on the support forum suggest that Apple pushes the OS 10.8.5 update out to their MacBook Air, the problem disappears.  It appears that Apple is gradually allowing updates to OS 10.8.5.   So a possible solution is to visit your local Genius Bar in the Apple Store or call Apple and ask about getting this update for your Mid 2013 MacBook Air.
