Several users have reported that their songs are greyed out in iTunes (thus they cannot be played) after performing an iOS update on their device, especially on the iPhone 4S, iPhone 5 and iPad. Please try the following tips to resolve this problem. After performing each step, please check to see if your issue is fixed.
- Restart your iPhone. Turn off your device by pressing and holding the on/off button until you see the red slider and then slide the slider. To turn back on, press and hold the on/off button until you see the Apple logo.
- Plug your device into your Computer to sync. Ensure that all of the music is in your iTunes library. On the music tab, use the “Sync Music” button after unchecking every playlist, artist, album and genre. After syncing your device (which will erase all music from your device), reselect your playlists, artists etc. and re-sync again.
- Back up your device, then transfer and sync your content to your computer. The delete everything using “Erase All Content and Settings” in Settings > General > Reset (this may take up to a few hours so connect your device to a power outlet). then restore your device from a backup.
