The more we wait for the next iteration of the famous Apple phone, the more speculations are made on its features and updates. Most of these rumors are a projection of our hopes. Who has not dreamed of getting the most perfect phone ever?
There is no doubt that Apple has always been a leader and a predecessor when it comes to innovative mobile devices, but considering the tough competition during the last couple of years, iPhone 5 is expected to be revolutionary., How can it not be?
In this review, we are going to sum up and evaluate some of the most widespread rumors around the iPhone 5 release.
Rumor #1: iPhone 5 will be released within weeks!
The date of release is obviously the most controversial information. A few days ago, the famous PC Advisor webzine and Know Your Mobile published that iPhone 5 will be released on August 7. Such sensational news is, unfortunately, given by an anonymous source within the industry, and contradicts older news that iPhone 5 would be released during the 4th quarter of this year.
In regards to this rumor, let’s use our common sense. The last two versions of iPhone were both announced in October, corresponding to the last quarter of the year. It seems to be an Apple tradition, don’t you think?
More importantly, iPhone 5 is expected to run on the latest Apple operating system, iOS 6. The final edition will not be released until autumn, if we trust the official Apple website.
How can iPhone 5 be exciting without such an enhanced operating system? Because of this information, we are led to believe that iPhone 5 would be launched in the autumn. However, no one outside Steve Jobs’ heirs can deliver the exact date—not even Apple partners!
Rumor #2: iPhone 5 will come with a perfect Screen
Screen size is one the most discussed features among the fervent iPhone 5 rumors. Thinner, bigger and coming with better quality: these are the speculated specifications of the new iPhone, knowing that Samsung has recently won the competition in terms of screen display.
The reliable Wall Street Journal published a report in which it was touted that Sharp, Japan Display and LG Display, leading electronics manufacturers in Asia, are working on improving their LCD screen by directly integrating touch sensors. Such an innovative advance would enable the new iPhone to reduce the thickness of its LCD screen, thus reducing the thickness of the whole phone.
According to the same sources, this new technology will also improve the lightness of displayed images on the screen.
Bottom line: Apple is likely to come with a much better and thinner screen; of that we can be sure.
Rumor #3: Slimmer design
Though there is now the possibility of a thinner screen in the new iPhone, this devise will not necessarily be slimmer. Apple must consider a set of issues, both technical and economic. It is known, for example, that a thinner phone does not offer enough space for the battery. However, a thinner screen can allow for extra room for vital components such as battery.
Recently, Daily Mail Online relayed exciting information from the Korean IT News saying that iPhone 5 may be created in an alloy called “liquid metal”. It is a mix of more than four metals, described as being strong and light in comparison to traditional materials. Using this magic combination in the creation of iPhone 5, would lead to an extra slim handset.
Keep in mind, however, that Apple suppliers and third-party manufacturers are asked to keep silent about the truth. So, we can only hope that these leaks are true!
Rumor #4: iPhone will be NFC enabled
Near Field Communication seems to be becoming the substitute for Bluetooth in the near future as a standard radio communications protocol over short distances. NFC connections are known to be easier to establish and less power consuming. Consequently, there is a growing need for this technology.
Note that a likely NFC chip on iPhone 5 will perfectly coincide with Passbook, the exciting built-in app on the upcoming iOS 6. As described on the official Apple website, this native application should substitute the wallet by storing tickets, coupons, and more transaction stuff. We believe that NFC would have to be included on the iPhone 5 because of the inclusion of the new Passbook software. We are strengthened in our belief by a recent Washington Post report.
Rumor #5: Extended battery life
Mobile applications are getting more powerful and wonderful, but on the other hand, they consume more and more resources; battery being one of the most vital.
There is evidence that Apple is attempting to improve the next iPhone battery, and this is a persistent rumor. Is it true? We have found a scientific point of view by Noam Kedem, who is responsible for marketing at a California based batteries manufacturer. He states that the iPhone 5 battery may be significantly larger than it was in old models, though impact in terms of new iPhone runtime won’t be that notable. Since 1991, electronic device transistor density has increased 300 times more than the energy density of the Lithium-Ion batteries, meaning that a larger battery is needed just to keep up with the energy needed to run it a decent amount of time.
In short, iPhone 5 is expected to come with a larger battery, thanks to its thinner screen, but if we believe science, runtime limits can’t be pushed as far as we hope!
Rumor #6: Incomparable camera
Did you know that Apple has recently been awarded a patent for a multi-point camera focusing system? The news was announced by the AppleInsider website. Thanks to this exclusive Apple technology, users can select two or more regions of interest. The resulting frame brings optimal sharpness and exposure of these areas. Now the question is: will iPhone 5 be equipped with such advanced technology? We think yes, as the new iPhone is the most awaited IT creature in the coming months.
The extraordinary amount of rumors and speculations around the next generation iPhone show that despite serious competition in today’s mobile industry, Apple is still leading the 21st century digital revolution.
