I am a big fan of using Google Calendar. With so many schedules to juggle between my wife and I, it is so important that we can see what each other is doing so that we donʼt make scheduling snafus. But on the iPhone there is no dedicated Google Calendar app to access my Google Cal. And there is no way I want to log onto the mobile Safari to check my Google Cal, it just takes too long. Well, there is a better way. With Google Sync, you can sync your Google Cal with your iPhoneʼs Calendar.
The first thing you are going to want to do is go into the “Settings” on your iPhone. Then you are going to want to click on “Mail, Contacts, Calendars”.
You are then going to want to click on “Add Account.” This is where you are going to add your Google Calendar Account. Next, you will click on Microsoft Exchange.
Then you will be asked to fill in your email, username and password for your Google account. Make sure that when you enter in your username that you enter in your full gmail address. You donʼt need to put anything in for the Domain. When you are done, click on “Next”. After you are done here you are going to be asked to put in the server. You will enter in m.google.com. Click “Next” and your account should now be set up.
When you are done here you will want to launch the mobile Safari browser on your iPhone. You are going to want to go to the following address m.google.com/sync. Then you are going to want to click on “Sign in with your Google Account.” You will then sign in with your Google account credentials.
When you are done here, you will be then be taken to a screen to manage your devices. Now, if you have never used Google Sync before, you should only see your iPhone listed. You are going to want to click on it. Once you do this, you should see all of your calendars that you have on Google Cal.
Here you can check off which calendars you want to sync with your iPhone calendar. Once you are done, click on “Save”. From here your iPhone calendar should now be syncing with your Google Calendar. Depending on how many events you have, it may take a little while to get all your calendars in sync.
You will now be able to enter an event either in Google Cal or on your iPhone and the two should sync seamlessly. This is such a nice feature to have if you donʼt want to go out and pay for an app that does this.
