The iPhone is the perfect device for listening to music, but when you run out of space, it’s often hard to find a good service to replace the iPod app. Pandora does a good job at streaming music you enjoy, but it can be annoying with all of it’s restrictions. If you enjoy the laid-back nature of the radio, TuneIn Radio is the app for you!
TuneIn is very simple; you open the app, search for a station, and you’re off to the races! The app uses GPS (or cell tower/wifi network triangulation) to find your location and then searches for radio stations near you. It was very easy for me to find my favorite station, but there was one problem, the app didn’t have all of my local stations. This wasn’t a huge problem, but it seems to only have stations that publicly had their station streaming online.
There were tens of hundreds of stations available to listen to, and fortunately, streaming went very well. Unlike a lot of other streaming services, I never had a time when the app stopped to buffer the stream, but the app did noticeably change the quality of the stream while I was listening to a station. This is probably the reason why the app does so well to not stop the station’s stream. The app also allows you to record audio, so if you really love the song that just played, you can listen to it again anytime!
Overall, the app is definitely worth buying. The app is only $0.99 (as of this writing), and there is also a free variant with banner ads and without live recording.
