I try to keep my menubar as minimal as possible. If I don’t need it or don’t use the app, I tend to not leave it in the menubar. You have to be a practical app and an app that I will use all the time to stay in my menubar. Well, a few weeks ago, I think I found an app that cracked into my menubar and I believe is going to stay there for a while. I am talking about Calendarbar. It is such a simple app that lives in your menubar, but yet, for me so useful and powerful.
Calendarbar is an app that shows you your events for iCal, Google Cal and Facebook that lives in your menubar. And basically that is the main purpose of the app. As you can see from the snapshot above (Sorry, I took the snapshot above from Calendarbar, as I didn’t want to share some of the things that were on my Calendarbar), the app looks good and is done well. As simple as this app looks, there is more to it. There are a lot of the behind the scenes work that goes on in this app. One of the nice things you can do for this app is customize it. You can change the font and font size as well as the width of your Calendarbar.
One of the other great features is how you can customize the calendars. Like I had mentioned before you can display your iCal, Facebook, and Google Calendar events. But you the option to show all of them or just the ones that you want. Most of us nowdays have more than one calendar within iCal or Google Calendar. You can choose to show which calendars you want and whether or not you want to show any of them. I personally only show my Google Calendar and Facebook events in Calendarbar.
With the latest update to Calendarbar, you can now sync tasks from iCal. This is a nice little feature to have. You can also launch the app straight from Alfred, Launchbar or Quicksilver.
The app overall is a great app. I like it so much because if I just want to see what my schedule is like for today or for the next couple of days, I can just click on the app in the menubar and see my schedule. I don’t have to open up iCal or Google Calendar then check my schedule. At some point, it would be nice if you could add events and create tasks through the app.
You can get Calendarbar on the Mac App Store for $0.99 for a limited time while it is on sale. I would highly suggest you go and get it.
