Many individuals today routinely visit a plethora of websites that require logging in to access their full functionality. Unfortunately, if you have multiple logins for the same website (such as a webmail system that you use to check multiple email accounts) it can be a challenge to manage the different sets of login information, especially since few web browsers support this by default. Fortunately, there are a number of options that can help you.
If your web browser of choice is Camino (1), then you are already using one of the few web browsers that support this behavior by default. When you enter your login values in a website, Camino will prompt you to save the information. If you accept, the login information will be saved in the OS X Keychain. If you later enter different login values at the same website, rather than prompting you to overwrite the existing values (as Safari does), Camino will also offer you the option to save a new entry. The next time you go to that website, Camino will automatically fill in one of the saved values. If you want to login in with a different set of saved values, simply type the first letter or two of the secondary login. Camino will automatically change the autofill information accordingly.
Firefox (2) users also have a relatively easy way of managing multiple logins. Although Firefox does not support this feature by default, Firefoxʼs extensible nature comes to the rescue! Multifox (3) is an extension designed specifically to allow users to manage multiple logins. Simply search for “Multifox” in the extensions window within Firefox to install it. One advantage of Mutlifox is the ability to use your multiple logins/accounts simultaneously. For example, if you have multiple Gmail accounts, you do not need to logout of one before logging into another. You can have each one open in a new window, without worry about the different accounts interfering with each other.
For users of other browsers, such as Safari (4), 1Password (5) can offer the needed functionality. 1Password is a password manager that serves as a replacement for the OS X Keychain, while offering a number of additional features. Cross-platform support, iOS and Android support, as well keystroke logging and phishing protection are just a few of the features that 1Password offers…in addition to the basic ability to have multiple logins for websites. Although multiple logins can present a challenge, with any one of the above tools, you can easily manage them.
