A number of users have reported an issue in which the iPhone’s onscreen keyboard is seemingly less accurate under iOS 4 than it was under previous iterations of the software. A sampling of reports from Apple’s discussion boards:
- mynameisbren: “Directly after updating to iOS4, the alignment of my touchscreen seems to be a little off. When I try to double-tap the space bar, I end up hitting the ‘n’ on the second tap. This began directly after installing iOS 4.”
- Judge.Judy: “I’m glad someone else has the same problem – I thought I was going mad. I have several friends with iPhones, none of them report any such issues. I managed to try a friends iPhone just now and irritatingly its absolutely fine.”
- Remmy70: “I thought I was going insane… having exactly the same problem: getting ‘n’ a lot, double space-bar tap not working properly and it also feels like i’m hitting the enter and backspace buttons more than I ordinarily did.”
Potential Workaround
Oddly, several users have reported that simply adding a second keyboard significantly improves this issue. To do so, navigate to Settings > General > Keyboard, then tap “International Keyboards” and add one.
U.S. users have experienced success with adding the English (UK) keyboard.
