Several users have reported an issue in which the iPad fails to keep proper track of time while the unit is asleep. In other words, the iPad’s clock falls behind real time.
Apple Discussions poster dabbawallah writes:
“My 32GB WiFi iPad was keeping the time fine for the first ten days or so. Then suddenly, when I woke this morning, the clock was about 30 minutes slow. It continued to lose time when I put it to sleep today. (Doesn’t lose time when awake, though.) Tried restarting. Tried a forced restart. The forced restart seemed to fix the problem temporarily. But it’s back now.”
Generally, syncing the iPad or turning the unit off then back on will correct the time. Time can also be set manually, in Settings.
